About Joe Ayoub
For more than three decades, Joe Ayoub has advised business leaders through some of the most consequential decisions their companies face.
As founder of Varuna Strategies, Joe advises public and private companies on board composition and governance, with a particular focus on identifying and recruiting directors who strengthen oversight, leadership, and long-term enterprise value.
His approach begins long before the search. Joe first develops a deep understanding of the company's strategy, leadership, culture, ownership, and ambitions. From there, he helps determine the combination of experience, judgment, perspective, and other attributes the board will need for what comes next.

Joe Ayoub is the founder of Varuna Strategies, where he advises private and public companies on board composition and governance. He specializes in identifying and recruiting high-impact board members who strengthen oversight, leadership, and long-term enterprise value.
Prior to founding Varuna Strategies, Joe was a paerner with three nationally respected law firms, where he focused on litigation, governance, and risk management. His civic and charitable leadership work includes service on the Board of Directors of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, as a member BOA of the Tufts University School of Medicine and the Massachusetts Office of the Child Advocate, and an Emeritus member of the Board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Massachusetts Bay following 33 years of board service, including as board chair.

Before founding Varuna Strategies, Joe was a partner with three nationally respected law firms advising businesses on litigation, governance, fiduciary responsibilities, and risk management.
That experience gives Joe a perspective uncommon in board search: an understanding of how boards actually function, how directors make decisions, and how governance and leadership intersect when the stakes are high.
Joe is also co-host of the On Boards podcast and has extensive board experience of his own, including service on the Board of Directors of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Today, Joe combines his governance expertise with a highly personalized board search process that helps organizations recruit directors who contribute immediately and create lasting value.
